‘Stricken Jet Ski Operator’ Towed Back To Shore

April 6, 2023

The Royal Bermuda Regiment Coast Guard was called to assist a disabled jet ski on April 1, with the jet ski eventually securing a tow from a passing vessel.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday, April 1 at 8:55am, a telephone call was received from the Royal Bermuda Regiment Coast Guard personnel at Scenic House, advising that they had been notified of a disabled jet ski in the vicinity of North Rock.

“Bermuda Radio commenced urgency broadcasts on marine VHF requesting vessels in the area keep a sharp lookout and potentially assist. Unable to re-contact the jet ski or good Samaritan vessels in the area, the RCC tasked an RBR Coast Guard unit to proceed to North Rock to investigate.

“Vessel Heron III arrived in the area and commenced a search around North Rock and Northeast Breaker Beacon with no sightings of any vessels requiring assistance.

“At 11:10am, BMOC received a call from the stricken jet ski operator who confirmed that a tow had been secured from a passing vessel and that he is safely back in St. George’s Harbour.

“He had been unable to make contact with anyone again on his cellphone to update on his situation. Heron III was stood down and they returned to their base at Boaz Island.”
