T.K. Kirkland To Film Live Show In Bermuda

American comedian T.K. Kirkland will head to Bermuda to film a live stand-up special at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium at CedarBridge Academy this month.
T.K. Kirkland, known as the King of Underground Comedy, has performed regularly on the island during his career, including local comedian Nadanja Bailey’s 40th birthday in 2016.
Mr Bailey, who will host and produce the show on April 15, was approached by Mr Kirkland about bringing his one-night-only show to Bermuda when the comedian visited the island before Christmas.
“I’ve known T.K. for years,” Mr Bailey told Bernews. “He was in Bermuda at Christmas with his daughter, and he hit me up and said, ‘What do you think about producing my one-man special?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. When do I come to the US?’ “He was like, ‘No, we’re doing in Bermuda – I love this place!’
Mr Kirkland, who started his career touring with hip hop group N.W.A, intends to sell the show to a US television network, which Mr Bailey believes will put Bermuda on the map from a comedy perspective.
“This is not a show you bring your side girl to,” Mr Bailey said. “It’s a show you bring your main girl to because you might get seen on TV!
“I’m just happy to be part of something that could be epic.”
He added: “His style is a good fit for the island. He’s a mentor, a therapist, and a psychologist. His comedy makes you think, but he creates hilarious scenarios and delivers them so smoothly.”
Mr Bailey said he is excited by the challenge of drawing on his years of experience to produce the show.
“T.K. is the headliner, but if the show doesn’t go right, it’s my name attached,” he said. “I have to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.
“I’ve been producing shows for many years. I pretty much have it down. I’ll help meet the expectations of the audience.
“My focus is to keep comedy alive in Bermuda. I aim to deliver two shows each year, one in April and one for my birthday in September. People need to laugh more often.”
General admission costs $60 and $100 for VIP tickets, which include an open bar, hor d’oeuvres, and a choice of seats.
Tickets are available from BDAtix.bm and 27th Century Boutique.
