Rotary Interact Club Reveals Goals For Year
The incoming Hamilton Rotary Interact Club has voted in their new executive, who have met and submitted their goals for the year.
A spokesperson said, “The 2023/24 Executive Board includes:
- Jack McDonnell [President]
- Youenn Pugi [Vice-President]
- Nia-René Outerbridge [Treasurer]
- Kayden Bolin [Secretary]
- Tre Simmons [Assistant Secretary]
“Hamilton Rotary Interact Club is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people in Bermuda. It gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects. The Hamilton Rotary Interact Club will complete a minimum of two projects this year, one servicing the community and the other furthering international understanding.
Our Focus for 2023/24: Environment and Youth
“We are inspired by Rotary’s causes to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world. By working alongside local and international charities, the Hamilton Rotary Interact Club will focus on three goals this year:
- Protect Bermuda’s environment
- Support education and youth in Bermuda
- Provide clean water to schools internationally
How They Will Reach Their Goals:
1. Protect Bermuda’s environment
- Work with KBB to install locking public trash cans
- Work with Bermuda Rotary Clubs for the Centennial Cedar Tree Planting project
- Work with Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo/BAMZ
- Help clean up Trunk Island, including picking up bottles from the ocean
- Spread awareness of the ocean and the environment to school children:
- Raise funds to provide free admission to the aquarium for Bermuda
children who have never visited - Raise funds to help with public school field trips to the aquarium
- Raise funds to provide free admission to the aquarium for Bermuda
2. Support Education and Youth in Bermuda
- Work with SPS.bm [Support Public Schools] with backpack donations to public schools
- Volunteer and play with the students at Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy
- Work with the Coalition for the Protection of Children on their breakfast program
- Discuss a soup kitchen idea providing public schools with fruits and healthy options for breakfast, lunch and/or snacks, possibly working with the Diabetes Association
- Organise a presentation with CURB to educate how to decrease racism in Bermuda among youth
- Organise a presentation from Bermuda Police and/or Crime Stoppers about gang violence. Raise awareness and educate by organising a short film or art competition about the impact of gang violence on Bermuda youth
3. Provide clean water to schools internationally
- Work with KatKids to raise money to provide clean water to school children in Haiti and Uganda
- Continue our fundraising to set up the Water Harvesting Project in Zimbabwe
How the Hamilton Rotary Interact Club will Raise Funds:
- Car wash/bake sale
- Movie night
- Playing music/busking
- Dunking a Bermuda famous person in the water [example: Mr. Fotogenik]
- Harbor Night stall
