Kenni Thompson Joins AFC Bournemouth
Bermuda football player Kenni Thompson has been signed by AFC Bournemouth Women.
The AFCB website said, “Bermuda international, Kenni Thompson, has become the latest recruit to join AFC Bournemouth Women, signing from Spanish side Eibar.
“The winger arrives to the UK having previously spent time in England with both Chelsea and London Bees.
“As a youth player, Thompson played for both Espanyol and Barcelona, initially joining the academy of the latter, before going on to train with EU Cornella.
“Her Bermuda debut came within the last six months as she looks to progress her international career while with the Cherries.”
Thompson said, “I’m really excited to be part of the group and part of the project going on here. To be on the pitch wearing the shirt will be a great feeling.
“I think what excites me most is that there is the ambition from every level, not just the people that are involved on the pitch day-to-day. People at the club are ambitious for the women’s team as well as us.
“I’m finding it very cold and very windy! It’s a great group of girls though and I really enjoyed my first session. Promotion is always the number one goal, but we know we need to win all of the games to get there and I’m here to try and help that.”
The report said, “Thompson could make her Cherries debut this weekend, as Steve Cuss’ side take on Bridgwater in the National League.”
A Bermuda Football Association spokesperson said, ‘Today marks another milestone moment for Bermuda football as we celebrate the signing of Kenni Thompson to AFC Bournemouth Women. Women’s football continues to evolve and grow on both sides of the Atlantic, and we congratulate Kenni on her latest achievement.
“Football has always been a game that unites us. Bermuda’s association with AFC Bournemouth continues to grow and evolve positively. We congratulate Kenni and look forward to witnessing her contributions that will undoubtedly inspire many of our young girls currently playing in and for Bermuda.”
Wonderful news. Congrats to Kenni!
Here’s hoping we can get more and more of our talented young women playing in higher level leagues.
