Liberty Mutual Renew Relay For Life Sponsorship
Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda has reaffirmed its sponsorship of Relay For Life of Bermuda for the eleventh year.
A spokesperson said, “Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda proudly reaffirms its commitment as the presenting sponsor of Relay For Life of Bermuda for the eleventh consecutive year. Relay For Life, scheduled for May 10-11, will be an 18-hour event at the National Sports Centre, North Field.
“The theme for this year’s Relay For Life is “Every Cancer, Every Life,” reflecting our collective dedication to combatting cancer and supporting those affected by it.
“The Relay season kicked off in January with a poignant tribute—a display of over 200 cancer awareness ribbon cutouts, each symbolizing not only the 200+ cancer diagnoses in Bermuda but also the diversity of over 200 cancer diseases. This visually compelling representation underscored the breadth and depth of the cancer challenge facing our community. It served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for continued support, awareness, and action in the fight against cancer. This stirring display sets the tone for a season of unity, resilience, and hope as we come together for Every Cancer, Every Life.
“Since 2014, Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda has contributed over $886,500 in funding to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre through corporate sponsorship and employee participation. These funds have been pivotal in sustaining the Centre’s vital services, including radiation therapy and early detection programs, ensuring accessibility to all, irrespective of insurance coverage.”
Mr. Horton, representing Liberty Mutual Insurance Bermuda, remarked, “The community’s unwavering support has enabled remarkable achievements, including the establishment of a radiation facility in Bermuda. Together, we’ve extended critical services to uninsured or underinsured individuals, underscoring Liberty’s core value of putting people first.”
The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Relay, held annually in May, is the Island’s premier fundraising event, drawing over 5,000 participants and generating over $4.5 million since its inception. Remarkably, 97% of funds raised directly support local initiatives, promoting cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and support services offered by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.
“Relay For Life events are overnight gatherings, symbolizing the ongoing fight against cancer. The opening ceremony, featuring cancer survivors leading the first lap, instils hope and resilience. As darkness falls, a luminary ceremony honours survivors and commemorates those lost to the disease with illuminated candles. The event concludes with a closing ceremony the following day.
