Jessica Lewis In Japan For Kobe Worlds
Jessica Lewis will step up her bid to reach the Paralympics in Paris this summer when she competes at the Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan.
The Bermudian, who specialises in the T53 100 metres, will look to build on her third-place finish at the Sharjah International Open Para Athletics Meeting and a fourth-place finish at the 15th Fazza International Para Athletic Grand Prix – Dubai in February. She also came fourth in the T53 400 in Dubai.
More than 1,000 athletes from 100-plus nations will compete in 168 medal events [92 male and 75 female and one mixed] at the Kobe World Championships, which start on Friday [May 17].
The event will be at the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium and the first Para Athletics World Championships in East Asia.
Last year, Lewis made significant career changes, moving to Victoria, British Columbia, to train at the Athletics Canada West Hub under her new coach, Geoff Harris, and making positional alterations to her racing chair.
The 31-year-old, who won her second Female Athlete of the Year award in March, is also scheduled to race at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Paris in June before hopefully becoming a four-times Paralympian at the Paris Games in August and September.
