Amateur Stroke Play Championships To Kick Off
The Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships will be held at the Port Royal Golf Course starting on Friday [June 21] and finishing on Sunday [June 23].
A spokesperson said, “Some 64 amateur golfers across 4 divisions have registered for the tournament. The Men’s Open Championship 54-hole tournament has a very strong field with 2023 champion Will Haddrell back to defend his title. He will be challenged by the likes of Jarryd Dillas, Eric West, Oliver Betschart, Damian Palanyandi, Kenny Leseur, Adam Perry and Jevon Roberts.
“In the Senior Men’s Championship, Rod Forrest is in the field to defend his title and he will also be challenged by a strong field of seniors. There are 8 seniors from overseas that have flown in to compete in this prestigious tournament. Former winner, Scott Clark is leading the field of overseas challengers, and he is accompanied by Todd Schaul, Tony Revenda, Nick Fernandez and Jeff Holladay just to name a few. Top local seniors include, Richard Neame, Hav Trott, Terry Mullan and Geoff Piggott.
“In the 36-hole First Flight division there is a strong field with the likes of Port Royal members, Andrew Yates, Paul Egan, Cieran Duffy, Ross Orr and John King. Other locals to keep an eye on are Andrew MacFarlane from Mid Ocean Club, Jonathan James from Ocean View Golf Club and Michael Daniel. New to the Stroke Play event this year is the junior division [U14] with up-and-coming youngsters, Lewis MacFarlane, Lachlan Soutter, Fletcher Logie, Cole Graham, Charlie Hopkin and Grayson Tavares battling for the title. There are two older juniors playing in the Open Championship division in Dylan Muso and Arman Newton who are preparing for the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships being held in Jamaica from July 1st – 6th. MacFarlane will also be representing Bermuda in the Caribbean.
“Tee times start at 11:50am on Friday, 8:00am on Saturday and 7:30am on Sunday.”
