Somerset Cricket Offers Discounted Plywood
[Written by Patrick Bean]
With the demand for plywood increased as a result of the threat of Topical Storm Ernesto, Somerset Cricket Club is offering sheets of the material to the general public at a discounted price of $60.
As of this morning, Tropical Storm Ernesto is a “threat to Bermuda”, the Bermuda Weather Service said, with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hours forecast to be 42 nm to the SW at 6am on Sat, Aug 17th, with the BWS noting that “this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period depending upon its track.”
Plywood is often erected as a barrier against strong winds in instances of storms and, with Ernesto threatening so soon post-Cup Match the Sandys club had a substantial quantity yet available for sale at a discounted rate.
Supplies that would normally be offered to construction companies are now available for purchase by the general public.
Nadir Wade, a club member, is responsible for the distribution of the leftover material.
“Usually we would set aside the plywood and take requests from small contractors looking for materials,” said Wade. “With the storm as a potential threat to the Island we have been receiving more calls than usual.”
“We are a community club and are happy if we are able to serve the community in a time of need.
“Normally we would look to approach small contractors and make bulk sales of plywood in quantities of, say 50 or so, sheets, but the storm has resulted in us receiving calls from the community and general public contacting us to see if they can buy smaller quantities.
“We’re always glad if we can be of service to the community, which is what we believe to be our role as an organisation, especially in this time of need, as we are a community organisation that looks to cater to the community.”
Individual pieces of ply that cost approximately $110 are being sold for $60.
Those seeking supplies of the product can call Wade at 703-9034.
