Bermuda Is Love is holding a Food Justice Forum this Sunday at BUEI from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

A spokesperson said, “This Sunday [Oct 20] Bermuda Is Love will be holding its first ‘Food Justice Forum’ at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute from 3:30pm to 6:00pm. This event will aim to bring the community together to discuss in depth the nature and character of our local and global food systems.

“Food Security of affordability, accessibility, quality, and sustainability is both a pressing present concern, and a potentially deepening threat to the wellbeing of people and their livelihoods, especially in highly food-insecure nations like Bermuda.

“The first Food Justice Forum will feature a seminar presentation and two panel discussions by Bermudians working in and around the food sector in Bermuda.

“The seminar presentation, titled “The Future of Food Security: Local and Global Risks & Rewards” will be delivered by William Campbell, a Developer of Climate Change Solutions and Bermuda Is Love’s Working Group lead on the Right to Food.

“Following this, the first of two panel discussions titled “Sowing Seeds of Systemic Change – Youth and Growth in Bermuda’s Food System” will be moderated by Zayne Sinclair of Bermuda Rotary Interact and Bermuda College Foundation, featuring Diamond Outerbridge, teacher at the Berkeley Institute and lead of the Bermuda Lunchbox program, Chris Faria of the Agra-Living Institute, and Ebony Lightbourne of Food Forest.

“The second panel discussion, titled “Bermuda’s Food System: Promise, Potential, and Pitfall” will be moderated by Aymori Duncan, featuring Craig Simmons, retired Lecturer of Economics at Bermuda College, Greg Wilson of Food Forest, and Steven McGuiness of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce. Each panel discussion will run for 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for Audience questions and answers after.

“The seminar and discussions are intended to empower attendees’ education on Food Security, and Global/Local Food Systems in order to strengthen Bermuda’s capacity to holistically improve and build solutions to insufficiencies and inequities in the food system.

“Bermuda Is Love invites all who are interested and look forward to discussing and building comprehensive solutions to improve the quality, security, affordability, shared economic benefit, and taste of food in Bermuda.”
