Shaun Goater’s Aston Villa Women drew 1-1 away to Everton Women in the Women’s Super League [WSL] yesterday [January 18].

Villa took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to a goal from Rachel Daly but were denied victory when Veatriki Sarri’s equalised in the 89th minute.

Goater took charge of the Women’s Super League [WSL] side on an interim basis last month, replacing Dutchman Robert de Pauw, having previously served on his coaching staff.

He told the BBC that he wants the job on a permanent basis.

“Certainly, yes. The answer is basically yes. I’m enjoying it at the same time,” Goater said.

“It’s game by game, the players are excited, confident and have smiles on their faces.

“That’s the most important thing, to have the information that will help them to be the best they can.”

The 54-year-old, who holds a Uefa A licence coaching badge, has previously coached North Village in the Bermudian Premier Division and English non-league sides Ilkeston and New Mills.

Villa are at home to Manchester City on Saturday [January 25].
