Rick Wright’s Greenville Defeat Omaha
Rick Wright’s Greenville Triumph SC enjoyed a memorable first game at their new stadium in Maudlin with a 3-0 win over defending champions Omaha Union in the United Soccer League [USL] League One yesterday [March 12].
Leo Castro [2] and Ben Zakowski scored goals for Greenville, who drew their opening game of the season 1-1 against Westchester SC last weekend.
The opening ceremony of the new stadium was highlighted by the appearance of Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, who recently joined the Triumph and Liberty ownership team with a group of investors.
Wright, the Greenville head coach, told the club’s website: “The day was definitely one of the highlights of this club’s history. You could feel the excitement in the air today, and it translated to a great performance on the field.
“The players rose to the occasion, and we had a great team performance on both ends of the field. We grew up a lot tonight, and now we just need to get healthy and keep momentum going.”
Wright led Greenville to the semi-final plays-offs in his first season in charge last term.
A former Saltus Grammar School student, Wright made appearances for the Bermuda and United States national teams.
