BFA ‘Outraged By Incident’ At Football Match

November 24, 2025 | 13 Comments

The Bermuda Football Association [BFA] said they are “outraged by the incident that took place at Southampton Rangers Sports Club during the scheduled match between Devonshire Colts and Paget Lions. ”

A spokesperson said, “The actions of the individuals who stormed the field armed with weapons were reckless, dangerous, and completely unacceptable in any setting—let alone at a community sporting event.

“Let us be absolutely clear: This type of activity has no place in football, no place in our clubs, and no place in Bermuda.

“What occurred yesterday is not just a ‘football problem.’ It is a Bermuda problem—one that we are seeing in too many of our public spaces, whether at Cup Match, Harbour Nights, our restaurants, school events, community gatherings, or neighbourhood functions. What happened yesterday is a stark reminder that we all share in the responsibility of protecting these spaces.

“The BFA condemns the attackers’ actions and will fully support law enforcement as they identify and hold accountable those responsible. We also commend the quick response of match officials, club staff, and the Bermuda Police Service, whose actions prevented what could have been a far more serious situation.

“The BFA will not tolerate behaviour that threatens the safety of players, officials, or spectators. We are immediately reviewing our security protocols and will work closely with clubs, venues, and law enforcement partnersto strengthen protections around all BFAsanctioned football events.

“But safeguarding Bermuda’s community spaces cannot fall on one organization alone. We are calling on the entire Bermuda public to stand with us in strongly rejecting and condemning this behaviour wherever it appears. This includes parents, supporters, community leaders, and every individual who wants to see our island remain a safe place.

“Violence is not who we are as Bermudians, and we must not allow the actions of a few to overshadow the positive contributions of our clubs, our youth, and the football community at large.

“The BFA remains committed to the integrity of the sport and to fostering a safe, respectful, and unified environment for everyone who loves football.”

  1. Truth is killin’ me… says:

Start getting tough on your problems!!

  2. Kim Smith says:

The BFA should cancel all football matches until a plan is in place to keep this violence out of the sport.

I know it feels like the innocent will suffer for the guilty but everyone must help and be part of the solution… if only to name the individuals who stormed the field or ever engages in violent or threatening behaviour.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Sadly, Kim, you might be right. If we cannot get police officers to enforce traffic laws, we have no chance of getting police officers to attend football or other sporting matches to prevent such behaviour.

      • Hilarious says:

Free coffee and doughnuts for all officers, on duty and off duty, who appear in uniform!

      • backtothefuture says:

i see plenty of officers out patrolling or doing traffic stops. why do some people always try to paint a different narrative? Never in my 20 years driving has the public been driving so slow. Average traffic speed for me daily on main roads can be as low as 25 to 30kph, lower than the speed limit, which is also a problem. dont make a crime article about traffic.

“Never in my 20 years driving …”

I have been driving for 47 years.

“Average traffic speed for me daily on main roads can be as low as 25 to 30kph”

I do not know where you live, but it is clearly not in Bermuda.

I presume that you were being sarcastic. VERY sarcastic.

  3. MADDOG says:

This problem is bigger than our Police – bring in UK forces, they won’t be messing around and don’t care who your momma is. Then how about we ask parents to actually PARENT their children and stop expecting teachers and police to do it for them….these individuals don’t just wake up one day like this…it starts from day one…no accountability, no responsibility, no role models, and that “not my boy” mentality…and here is the result.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

The last time a Police Commissioner brought in foreign help without the knowledge or permission of the Government he was fired.

      • MADDOG says:

and that tells you something about where the problem is doesn’t it? No one wants to make the hard decisions that will cost them votes…so they bide their time and HIDE. What right minded law abiding citizen would be opposed to UK forces coming in and helping us get our peace back? and what upstanding citizens would be opposed? EXACTLY.

        • Truth says:

          Exactly.
We have a guns and drugs problem, and very tight customs enforcement…against returning Bermudians. How do we have a guns and drugs problem then?

In unrelated news, all former and sitting MPs and their families, are exempt from customs searches.

        • IDK says:

Or how about just get permission next time? Crazy thought.

  4. No solutions above says:

Let’s face it we are stuck.Get ready for even more.
