Modular Housing Town Hall Set For Dec 16
The Ministry will host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday [Dec 16] in Sandys to “discuss the proposed installation of modular housing units in the Boaz Island area and to gather feedback from residents.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Housing and Municipalities will host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, starting at 7:00 pm at the Western Zone Community Centre, 15 Kitchener Road, Sandys, to discuss the proposed installation of modular housing units in the Boaz Island area and to gather feedback from residents.
“This engagement forms part of the Government’s commitment to open dialogue and transparency as it works to address Bermuda’s urgent affordable housing shortage.
“During the session, Ministry representatives and technical officers will provide an overview of the proposed pilot, including:
- The purpose of the modular housing initiative
- How the pilot fits into Bermuda’s long-term affordable housing strategy
- Who the units are intended to support
- Site layout, design features, and safety standards
- How tenancy, maintenance, and site management will be overseen
- The planning process, expected timelines, and opportunities for public input
“A brief presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, providing residents with the opportunity to speak directly with officials, raise concerns, and contribute to the ongoing planning process.”
A spokesperson said, ”We recognise that any development near a residential community must be approached with care, clarity, and respect. This town hall is a crucial opportunity for us to listen, explain the purpose of the modular housing pilot, and collaborate with the Boaz Island community as we address Bermuda’s broader housing challenges. We encourage all residents to attend, ask questions, and share their views.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The Ministry encourages residents of Boaz Island, neighbouring communities, and anyone interested in the project to attend this critical public discussion.”

I hope Bermudians open their minds to alternative housing options rather than shooting things down simply for political purposes.
Yeah , just like ya’ll shot down the AC35 for political reasons !
Yes they did, but did anyone expect any better behavior from the PLP. Childish at best.
The OBA came in, found even the current account broke, yet in one term got projects underway that the PLP could only talk about doing for 14 years. AC35 was the star ontop of the tree. The biggest sporting event ever held in Bermuda.
“Childish at best.”
Childish or vindictive?
“I hope Bermudians open their minds …”
Well, I now know what the PLP trolls think of Bermudians.
You mean people are acting like the PLP? Wait until another government bans interracial marriage. LMFAO
“Wait until another government bans interracial marriage”
What does that have to do with housing issues?
What do any of your posts have to do with housing? You should go outside once in a while.
“modular housing units”
The PLP Government brought in “modular housing” 20 years ago. It was destroyed by the first big storm. American “modular housing” is not built for Bermuda. Why can’t our Government learn from its past mistakes?
The UBP built the existing units at Boaz Island. Proper construction which has survived general wear and tear and numerous hurricanes. Now the PLP want to provide containers. At least they seem to have learnt their lesson with Grand Atlantic that they should not get involved in real estate development.
A prime example again of how Bermuda has progressed (not) under the PLP.
“The UBP built the existing units at Boaz Island”
Actually, Monach-Preco built the homes at Boaz Island Village. It did so for Boaz Island Development Company.
Thank you, I stand corrected. It was a long time ago, so memory….
However it was one of a number of successful such developments under the UBP.
*Monarch
That development was built by the Canadians for their base staff at Daniel’s Head. When they changed their plans and decided to vacate Bermuda the UBP took it over , but it was never originally a housing initiative started by the government of the day .
Whats the point? Its a done deal isnt it? Why now try and educate and inform the public and neighbours AFTER construction has started? Why bother, the hall will be filled the regular friends and family of the ministers and other cheerleaders that are just there for support and praise.
I know I would be very nervous living in one of those homes during a lightning storm! I trust the units will be grounded and there will be other measures in place to prevent someone being hurt, but it would stillbe a hell no for me. I still cant understand why they are trying to reinvent the wheel. Concrete , brick and slate have proven to be very effective over time.
Oh well, they say there is one born every day.
For clarity what is being proposed for Boaz Island.
There is a huge difference between container homes, mobile home and modular homes. With those differences comes costs.
A container home is not a modular home. A modular home is far nicer, and much more expensive, than a modular home. An assembled modular home will look much like a typical sticks and bricks N American home once assembled.
Either the Government is playing a game of deception or they really don’t know the difference of one home type to another.
If only they hadn’t wasted $150m+ on Grand Atlantic.
As Lt. Col. Burch quite honestly said, no private developer would have sank as much into Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana beach/White Elephant as the PLP government did.
That is why governments should not try to compete with private enterprise. Governments to not have a financial imperative to turn a profit or to cut losses.
And millions more on travel junkets to places like Dubai, Ethiopia and monthly trips to London and CARICOM cocktail partys.
Will there be a Town Hall on modular buildings held centrally?
BPAZ ISLAND
During WW11 Boaz island was used as an air base where sea bi planes would go out to spot “U” boats, the planes would radio back the submarines locations , Small ships from the Dockyard would go out to sink the subs with under water bombs.
Other uses for Boaz island were for accommodation most of which if not all have been demolished by W. & E. those homes were use for the Dockyard civil employees and also the British Army.
Woodies still stands to day , in the past was used as a food supply store some of which was rationed. it was hard going then ,also we got around on pedal bikes and the Corona .
l
Life then was not easy then as it is to today.
Bermuda is being slowly becoming, or faster than many may think a state of congestion.
Brendon Hollis, surely must have given many accounts of the activities on Boaz island relating to the hundreds of people who lived there.
Todats planned building program will not come cheep , the after effects of maintenance and if insured will be colossal . If rented.
