Pacers Girls To Compete At U14 Nationals
The Bermuda Pacers Track Club have sent a six-member team to compete at the 14 and Under National Age-Group Invitational in Landover, Maryland.
The indoor meet, held at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex, attracts more than 1,400 athletes from across the United States.
The all-girls team, aged between nine and 14, departed the island today [February 13] and will contest 16 individual events.
It marks the club’s debut at the competition and the athletes’ first experience competing on an indoor track.
Amaya Davis, a 100 metres, triple jump and long jump specialist, leads the team.
She will compete in the 60, 200 and long jump in the girls’ 13-14 division.
Also lining up in the 13-14 age group are Ava St Luce [60, 200] and Mylah DeSilva [200, 400].
Competing in the girls’ 9-10 division are Giselle Reid Rubaine [60, 200, 400], Diamond Morris [400, 800, long jump] and Skye Furbert, the youngest member of the team, who will contest the 60, 200 and long jump.
Morris recently captured the Bermuda School Sports Federation Over-9 Girls’ Primary School Cross-Country title.
Cal Simons has travelled as head coach.
