Photos: King Charles III Touring Island On Friday
King Charles III is visiting Bermuda this week, marking his first official visit to the island as monarch and his first time in Bermuda since 1970, when he came as a young prince.
The visit, which followed a State Visit to the United States, served as his first official trip to a British Overseas Territory as Sovereign. The Royal itinerary spanned the island from East to West. The visit commenced in King’s Square, St. George’s, where the King was received by a Guard of Honour mounted by the Royal Bermuda Regiment and a 21-gun salute.
Following the ceremony, the King visited St. Peter’s Church, Their Majesties Chappell, and later traveled to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo [BAMZ] to mark its anniversary. During a visit to Trunk Island, the King observed conservation efforts and participated in a “living classroom” session focused on local biodiversity.
In Hamilton, the King met with local dignitaries, artists, and artisans at City Hall and Arts Centre. The programme continued at the Royal Naval Dockyard, where the King visited the National Museum of Bermuda. The visit to Dockyard also included a performance by the National Gombey Troupe and a meeting with youth organisations and Commonwealth Games athletes.
