Luke Robinson On Return To Bermuda Team
Luke Robinson has reflected on his international return in Bermuda’s friendly match against Cape Verde after recovering from a long-term knee injury.
The 27-year-old, who can play as a left-back or winger, came on as a substitute in Bermuda’s 3-0 defeat against Cape Verde at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut, at the weekend.
Cape Verde have qualified for the World Cup, which starts tomorrow [June 10] in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Robinson ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] for the second time in his career during a match for English non-league side Whitehawk against Carshalton Athletic in February 2025.
“For as long as I can remember my dream has been to play football, I live and breathe it,” Robinson said.
“The dream was always to play professionally, play for my country and bring as much joy to anyone watching.”
Robinson said the past 18 months had tested him both physically and mentally as he worked his way back from injury.
“The last 18 months have been some of the toughest in my life,” he said.
“Another big injury and in that time all you can do is take each day as it comes and keep pushing forward no matter the thoughts or doubts you may have in your head.”
He said returning to the pitch for Bermuda made the difficult rehabilitation worthwhile.
“To have finally made it back on the pitch to represent my country again is something I’ll never forget,” he added.
“Every time it’s the same feeling. Pride joy and honour. and I know my dad has been looking down this whole season of life this past year and has seen the man he raised to never give up no matter the circumstance and just keep pushing forward.”
