At the press conference this morning (Aug 5) announcing Minister Paula Cox’s intent to seek party leadership, there were brochures available which listed, amongst other things, 12 objectives which Minister Cox says will assist Bermuda in “Moving Forward Together“ (her campaign slogan).

  1. Bermuda Deputy Leader Paula Cox leadership challenge | Bernews.com | August 5, 2010
  1. Phillip Wells says:

With the exception of point 7, shouldn’t we expect every Government of Bermuda to be doing this stuff? The contrast between this anodyne list and Terry Lister’s specific proposals for the things he’d like to change couldn’t be greater.

  2. Todd says:

I feel more included with Mr Lister’s campaign rather than what I have seen from Ms Cox. Looks like status quo with her plan. At least Lister appears to realize that things are NOT good all around and is prepared to change it up a bit. “Its Bermuda’s Turn” vs “Moving Forward Together”.

  3. Tired of nonsense says:

    Agree with Todd.

Mr. Lister seems much more passionate and sincere in his leadership push and from what I understand is well respected in the financial field. His acknowledgement of the unsustainable debt levels is also a major plus.

I believe Ms. Cox is more than capable, but her alignment with some of Dr. Brown’s cronies does not convince me that she is the change that Bermuda so desperately needs. Also, her inability to reign in her colleagues spending which has led to debt levels Bermuda has never seen before also is a downside on her campaign.

But my opinion doesn’t matter for I am not a card carrying PLP member or one of the very few delegates that has the superhuman ability to choose what and who is best for Bermuda and her thousands of citizens.

So good luck to all candidates involved and here’s to hoping that for the first time in 4 years that our country’s goals are put before partisan wants/objectives..

  4. Just Me says:

    TERRY!! TERRY!!

  5. So , what's new? says:

As usual , Phil nails it ..

Nothing but the usual woffle from Paula.

Zero inspiration in any of the above….

  6. Jade says:

Point 7 has become somewhat of a necessity because thanks to the lack of fiscal leadership of this Finance Minister, the government has run out of cash, increased debt to near-unserviceable levels and sold the package off as “sound policy.” I simply can’t get behind any individual with a track record of sub-mediocrity and spinelessness – I honestly think the best PLP leaders from an intelligence, tracvk record and leadership perspective are Dame Jennifer and former Minister Webb with Terry Lister’s recent actions and words putting him in a close third. Since he’s the only “hat” in the ring of the three…. under Minister Cox the island has been issued unprecedented back to back qualified audit opinions – how is rewarding that with a leadership role an example to set to our youth? Failure and fecklessness should never be extolled.

  7. Graeme Outerbridge says:

More hot air from the Minister that has driven Bermuda DEEP into debt!!! Now the COG wants to be a wheel!!!1 should be internal security, youth violence and gun crime.2 Should be the NATIONAL DEBT.3 Should be Immigration and Bermudian Unemployment. You see the trend …she has no grasp of the National Issues.BIG MISTAKE for Bermuda if she rolls into being Bermuda’s next Premier^^
