Art Show Will Create A Storm Of Interest

March 8, 2011

1-EmilyBermuda artist Rebecca Hanson hopes to raise a storm of interest with her new exhibition “Tempest” – in which she has sought to create beauty from three of the island’s most destructive recent hurricanes.

Named after William Shakespeare’s Bermuda-inspired play, “Tempest” is being held at Rock Island Coffee on Reid Street and opens Friday, March 18 with a reception  from 6-7:30pm.

“I have been studying the storm patterns of Hurricanes Emily [pictured], Igor and Fabian and searched for the beauty within them,” said Ms Hanson. “And a few pictures depict the calm after the storms.

“There is also some works of the anarchist theme which featured in my last show.”

“Finally I have a painting of a sunflower which I am going to put in a silent auction and, when sold, half the proceeds will go to the Sunshine League.”

Rebecca Hanson was born in Bermuda and attended Gilbert Institute until the end of P6.  She then went to boarding school in Somerset, England where she flourished in fine art and theatre.

It was during this time that she began painting professionally and after receiving sponsorship from advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi and Bacardi, Ms Hanson began to exhibit and sell her artwork internationally.

After working in acting and advertising abroad for a number of years, Ms Hanson returned to Bermuda and is painting and working on a children’s book.

Her “Tempest” exhibit – sponsored by Bacardi and Zobec Management — will run for two months.
