Bermuda Netball Team Finishes Undefeated

photo (1)Bermuda have finished their competition at this year’s Caribbean Netball Association’s Jean Pierre Youth Tournament by beating Guyana 20 – 16, to finish the Tournament undefeated.

Bermuda held a 4 – 2 lead at the end of the first quarter, they then held a 9 – 6 half time lead.

Both Bermuda and Guyana scored five goal in the third quarter for the score to end 14 – 11, before Bermuda scored six goals in the final frame and Guyana could only manage five goals.

Danielle Onyia once again led Bermuda in scoring with 8 goals, while Diara Benjamin scored four goals. Both Kirstin Saltus and Melissa Fiddick scored three goals and Taahira Butterfield scored two goals.

Bermuda went into the game having won their four previous games which sealed the overall Division win for them. After their last game against Guyana, Bermuda was presented with the 2011 Developmental Division Trophy.

The Bermuda National Junior Netball team began the tournament with a 24 – 12 win over Anguilla, which they followed up with a 29 – 19 win over Guyana. Their third win against Anguilla saw Bermuda dominate to the extreme — winning 31-2. Their fourth win, a 19-12 victory over St Kitts, sealed the Division win for the team. This is the second Division win in a row for Bermuda, as the team went into the tournament as the defending champions.

The Netball Team is not the only group of young athletes overseas doing well, with the Bermuda National Under 16 Rugby Team starting off their tour of Canada by winning their first two games yesterday [Apr.15].
