Mechanical Malfunction: Plane Stops in Bermuda
Last night [Apr.17] an airplane en route from the Dominican Republic to London made an unscheduled stop in Bermuda due to a mechanical malfunction.
Airport emergency response vehicles were on standby for the plane’s arrival as a safety precaution, and the 256 passengers disembarked from the airplane and spent the night in Bermuda. They are expected to depart at approximately 5pm today after the aircraft has been repaired.
An airport spokesperson said, “At 9:26 pm, a Thomson Fly Airlines Boeing 767 en route from the Dominican Republic to London Gatwick, landed in Bermuda after the Pilot informed Air Traffic Control of a mechanical malfunction. No emergency was declared, though airport emergency response vehicles were on standby as per normal procedure.”
“All 256 passengers and 11 crew were accommodated overnight at a hotel property and are expected to depart for London at approximately 5:00 pm today once the aircraft has been repaired.”
Tourist arrivals will be for the month!!!!
Hmmm…this isn’t the first time this same airline and aircraft has landed in Bermuda due to some type of mechanical issue – on its way to London from the DR. I’m sure someone in the control tower knows what type of mechanical issue they were experiencing that would cause the plane to land in Bermuda. Maybe a light bulb went out….???
The Bucket and Spade Flight landed in Bermuda……what a boost to our hotel occupancy rates for April!
When was the last time a plane landed in Bermuda with that many visitors that was actually destined for Bermuda?
Right On!!..
Let’s see the comparisons.
Charter Flight from the UK – Dominican Republic $300 each way
Hotel room all inclusive for 7 nights $1200
Flight from New York to Bermuda $500
Hotel room $500 per night for 7 nights = $3500 no food/bev included.
Sure we can fill the flights to Bermuda, but at what costs? They make $2.00 an hour in the DR. Who do you think will work for that in Bermuda – uhh no-one.
