ISL Arsenal & Knights Make The Finals

July 15, 2011

The Arsenal dominated the Union winning 13-4, and the Knights finished strong to hold off the Kings 5-2 in Lindo’s ISL Semifinal action Thursday night [July 14] at The National Sports Centre. The two teams will meet in the Lindo’s ISL Finals on Sunday night [July 17] at 7:30 pm. It’s the second straight Championship Game appearance for the Arsenal. The Knights will be playing in their second Lindo’s ISL Championship Game [2007].

The Arsenal were paced by Shaki Pearman’s five goals in their 13-4 victory. They played the match without Cecoy Robinson, who was the Lindo’s ISL leading goal scorer in the regular season. Pearman picked up the slack, and the Arsenal also got three goals and three assists from their defenders. Logan Alexander scored twice, and Ijahmon Mallory scored as well. The defense also shut out Union striker Jason Lee for the second straight game. Lee scored 15 goals against the rest of the league but was held off the sheet in both games he played against the Arsenal. Union goal keeper Treadwell Gibbons was shown a red card in the fourth quarter of the game and will face disciplinary action from the league.

The Knights defeated the Kings in the second match of the night 5-2. The Kings played without starting goal keeper Troy Hall. Striker Quincy Aberdeen played admirably in his place making 15 saves on the night. The Kings built a 2-0 lead on goals by Khamisi Lightbourne and Rui Furtardo. Knights goal keeper Nigel Burgess slammed the door the rest of the way and the Knights took advantage of two shootouts. The second one by Vince Minors gave them their first lead of the game in the third quarter. The Knights were awarded the shootout after Kings coach Marvin Belboda was shown a red card for arguing a call with the officials. Ian Coke and Ryan Purnell scored goals later in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Coke scored twice for the Knights and Nigel Burgess made 16 saves in the win. The Knights move onto the finals for the first time since the 2007 season.

Tickets are now on sale for Sunday’s Finals and can be purchased for $10 at all Lindo’s, and Sidekicks locations. They can also be purchased at the International Sports Store, the BFA, the Pro Shop and Grotto Bay Resort. 2011 Lindo’s ISL schedules are free and available at all ticket locations.

I’m not a fan of any team in particular as this is my first time watching ISL. To me the arsenal and knights have played much better and are better organized than the other teams. ISL provides a nice environment and its safe. Some of the refs are better than the others but goals win games. To Titan fan…when your capitan misses a penalty at a critical point in the game…Oh well! Was that the refs fault too. I saw Titans play, they were ok as well, just not ready for the 2 teams in the final. Why is it always somebody else’s fault……… Goals win games.
