Sunday August 16th: “Good News” Spotlight
News that Allshores announced a $3 million donation over three years to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, ILS Bermuda announced that 13 students successfully completed the ILS Bermuda College Programme, and Hamilton Princess & Beach Club recognised 29 students for their contributions this summer were among the positive news stories from the past week.
In additional good news, Bermuda’s volleyball teams have won multiple games at the ECVA, the 2026 NJASP Awards recognised outstanding junior athletes and coaches for their achievements, and Carla Watson was honoured for decades of youth service with the unveiling of a dance and movement studio.
Other good news stories included Appleby awarding its 2026 scholarships and bursaries to Jacob Matthews, Sioma Rudo, Tejah Bean, Yahzahra Gilbert and Sage Jackson; Allshores awarding its inaugural $20,000 Postgraduate Scholarship to Shani Tucker and Sophia Perrin; and I’Aura Golding receiving PwC Bermuda’s 2026 Peter Mitchell Scholarship and ABIC Award.
More good news included more than 600 backpacks being distributed to Bermuda students at a Back-to-School Giveaway, Jorai Laurenceo, Nahla Woods, Varshini Srinivasan and Syesha Sampson receiving $7,500 scholarships, and Bermuda Is Love launching a paid internship programme giving two students hands-on advocacy experience.
