Man Charged With Threatening His Mother

March 22, 2012

In Magistrates Court this morning [Mar.22], 25-year-old Darren Anglin was charged with threatening his mother. He pleaded not guilty to uttering threatening words and detaining his mother against her will.

The alleged incident was said to have occurred earlier this month in Hamilton parish. Mr Anglin was released on bail, and ordered to stay away from his mother’s home.

Also appearing in Court this morning was a 17-year-old who pleaded not guilty to robbing another teenager of a BlackBerry phone and another item. He was bailed, ordered to stay away from the alleged victim, and will stand trial later this year.

In addition, 62-year-old Warwick resident Earl Wilson appeared in Court after being arrested for a traffic offence from eight years ago.

Arrested yesterday, he stood, this morning, before Magistrate Khomisi Tokunbo to explain why he still had not paid a fine of $190 that had been levied in 2004.  Magistrate Tokunbo ordered that Mr Wilson must pay that $190 this day or serve 19 days in default.

Following that, Mr Wilson then had to explain to the Magistrate why, in September 2007, he had failed to attend Court to stand trial for three more traffic offences.

Mr Wilson said that he had forgotten these incidents but would plead guilty to them anyhow. Accepting his pleas, the Magistrate then fined him $1,850 for driving without insurance, driving an unlicensed car and for having no drivers licence.

Mr Wilson asked for time to pay the fines, to which the Magistrate asked: “Will you pay before 2020?”

This always astounds me! How could you allegedly treat your own MOTHER in such a way!? 25 years old talking and treating your MOTHER like that? Let my son ever speak to his mother in such a way, I would whoop his @$$ no matter how old he was.

If you dont respect the woman that brought you into this world, who are you going to respect? No one! He needs a rude awakening and I hope all works out for his poor mother.

Todays youth is a SAD SIGHT.

    Earl Wilson,
The way his situation was dealt with by the magistrate is a travesty of justice: That fine was over 8 years outstanding–hence he shouldnot have to pay. Period!!
The failure to appear in court in 2007 is such a longtime ago. What is the statute of limitation in Bermuda for stuff like this?
To anyone who appears in court for something that happened soo long ago–if you dont remember, dont plea guilty! the judge should have thrown both of those charges out!!!
What is going on with these judges? are they following the spirit of the law? takeing advantage of people that don’t know the law or have no lawyer…Maybe that is the real spirit of the law anyhow!!!
    Task Task!!!

@ Darrin…I know that you have had to endure a lot..BUT you know better! You’ve played soccer with my son and as long as I have known you (since you were 6) you have always been respectful to me. Even up to this day whenever you see me it is always good morning, good afternoon or good evening. It’s time to break that cycle Darrin…I know its not easy..its a part of life…but it can get better and only you can determine that!!!! Life is what YOU make it…….YOU are in control of your own destiny…….
