Campbell & Lambe Win Junior Golf Championship

July 7, 2012

Mitchell Campbell was crowned the 2012 National Junior Champion after winning the Open Blue Division of the 2012 BJGA Phoenix Match Play Championships.

In the 36 hole final Mitchell outlasted Sam Wehmeyer 6 and 4 to take the title. The morning round saw some solid golf with rounds of 71 and 73 for Campbell and Wehmeyer, respectively, with Campbell taking a 2up lead into the afternoon round.

A couple of errant tee shots on the 23rd and 24th holes saw Wehmeyer gift Campbell 2 more holes and he was unable to recover from the deficit. The victory is Campbell’s second major victory of the summer, fresh off his Bermuda Open Amateur Division triumph at Port Royal Golf Course in June. Next week Mitchell will be competing in the Callaway Junior Worlds in San Diego, California.

The Open Red final saw two good friends and frequent playing partners square off with Mikus Ming taking on Dakota Lamb. Lamb jumped out to an early advantage and played solid golf all day, holding off Ming and taking the title 4 and 3. This was Lamb’s first BJGA Major victory.

The Open Blue consolation flights saw Evan Watkins defeat Khari Place 3 and 1 in the consolation A and Walker Campbell made it a family double, seeing off Arriek Douglas 1up to take the Consolation B flight.

The Open Red Consolation flights saw the youngest player in the field , Kenny Leseur take the spoils in the consolation A flight, besting his best friend Kyrie Parfitt 6 and 5. The Open Red Consolation B flight appeared to be all but settled as James Robertson stood on the 16th tee 3 up with three to play over Kheary Swan. Swan, however, rekindled his qualifying round form, winning the final three holes and then birdieing the 19th hole to steal the victory.
