WindReach Boccia Players Represent Bermuda

April 17, 2013

WindReach Bermuda said today [Apr 17] that five of their Adaptive Sports participants will be travelling to Montreal, Canada to represent Bermuda in Boccia at the Defi Sportif Competition from April 25th – 28th.

The Defi Sportif Competition attracts approximately 4000 para athletes from around the world who compete in 13 different sports.

The Bermuda team includes Livingston Tuzo, Jaime Brangman, Yushae Simmons, Jamal Bean and Steve Wilson. They will be accompanied by Troy Farnsworth (WindReach Adaptive Sports Coordinator) and a support team.

The athletes, who participated in their first international boccia competition last year at this same event, are looking forward to returning to test their skills against some of the best players in the world.

Windreach Adaptive Sports Coordinator Troy Farnsworth stated: “Last year was a great experience for our athletes who learnt a great deal about what it takes to be competitive at the international level.

“Since last year’s competition we have intensified our training sessions and concentrated more on the technical aspect of the game. Everyone’s skills have certainly improved and I wish them all the best and I know they will make Bermuda proud.

“Some of our athletes will also be competing in the Americas Cup Boccia Tournament in August in Kansas and are hoping to qualify for the Paralympics in 2016 in Brazil. It’s an exciting time for Boccia in Bermuda and great to see our small island making its mark on the world stage.”

The Bermuda Boccia Team would like to extend a big thank you to Butterfield and Vallis, Bacardi, The Argus Group, BGA and The Bank of Bermuda Foundation for generously sponsoring the team. The team departs Bermuda on 23rd April on Air Canada and returns on 30th April on Air Canada.
