Ladies & Men’s Rugby League Weekend Results

Both male and female rugby players were in action this weekend, with the Mariners and Renegades recording wins.

Women’s Touch Rugby League

In the opening match the Mariners defeated the Teachers 2 – 0. The Mariners took the lead in the first half following a 50m break from Heather Wearmouth. Late in the second half Amanda Swan was stopped on the try-line, but a quick play put Gina Newsome over to score, giving the Mariners the 2-0 win.

The second match saw the Police and Renegades finish deadlocked at 1 – 1, Jo Godfrey had a sprint in the corner to give the Police a 1 – 0 lead, but Amy Harvey went over for a try for the Renegades to end the match at 1 – 1.

Heineken Men’s Division

The Teachers and Mariners took to the field, with Mariners captain Steven Husbands denied a try after some 16 minutes by a foot in touch, but 5 minutes later he made up for it 5 minutes later with a try which was converted by Rory Dublin. The Teachers would level the score at 7 – 7 when Nathan Brown scored a try and Andre Landy kicked the conversion.

Husbands put the Mariners back in front with his second try of the game which was converted by Dublin. Neither team could score for the remainder of the game as the Mariners came away with the 14 – 7 win.

The second game the Renegades defeated the Police 38 – 12, the Renegades got 2 tries from Jahan Cedenio and Tom Healy, they also got single tries from Greg Garside and Richard Cumbers, while Cumbers kicked 4 conversions. Guerhardt Lamprecht and Ben Green scored a try each for the Police, while Green kicked a conversion.
