  1. New Government Senator To Be Sworn In - Bernews.com : Bernews.com | November 6, 2014
  1. RU Kidding says:

One By One – who will be the next to go.

Given how Dunkley likes to surround himself with like minds, i’m guess Nick Kempe goes in the Senate.

    • WTF says:

Sen. Brangman is doing the honorable thing by resigning the Senate so as not to cause a conflict of interest. Thanks for your service mr Brangman and gods speed in getting the Morgans Point project up and running for all our sakes!!!

    • Sailor says:

He is not resigning because his allegiance to the OBA is gone. He is just resigning because he cannot fully commit his time to the Senate as he is busy working to develop a new hotel. He is still very much so a member of the OBA.

  2. el presidenti says:

    Brangman did the Right Thing!

as for Morgan’s Point (former NOB)…that should have NEVER been allowed to fall into the derelict state it is in now!

  3. Rhonda says:

No one believes is not resigning… the OBA got him a job, IMO…..and they have no more use for him in the Senate…

    • 32n64w says:

Unlike the PLP, supporters of the current Governemnt are capable of finding and earning positions in the private sector on their own merits. They are independently capable of succeeding on their own merits, not Governemnt funded mandates.

      • Raymond Ray says:

@ 32n64w : I couldn’t agree more…Had he not resigned then it’s without any doubts we would be hearing more and more from the P.L.P. supporters about he (possibly) having a conflict of interest. He’d be damn if he didn’t and now damn because he has :-(

      • Ian says:

If that is the case why has Paula Cox, who is more astute than pretty much everyone in the OBA cabinet, had so much difficulty securing a job in private sector. This dispite a pretty impressive resume. She signed the deal that conveyed the Morgans Point property to Brian Dupperrault et al, she secured Bank of Butterfield’s $200m loan guarantee when they were collapsing, she knows the captive insurance space inside out and she worked w general counsel at ACE. Save Dr Grant Gibbons, NOT A SINGLE person in the OBA cabinet is that impressive, let alone impressive at all. But… as you geniuses would believe, she DID cause the global financial crisis so I guess those acheivements all go out the window right…

        • SMH says:

          Ian/Jamahl,

Wow…talk about not having a clue. No one will touch Paula because see personally oversaw the destruction of her own country, including $2.0B in debt while in power. What part of incompetent do you not understand. NO company would hire someone with such an obvious on management or executive skills. No one. Wake up and smell the coffee

        • jt says:

Maybe because of how she handled our economy…or didn’t.

          • Ian says:

Look at that… one of the ‘geniuses’ proves my point…

            • hmmm says:

Had purse strings, when questioned on
spending….just a cog in the wheel when needed to be a gatekeeper. Probably wouldn’t look good on a resume.

              • Ian says:

                delusional much??

                • jt says:

Ian has it all figured out.
Definitely knows more than all those ignorant employers.

                  • Ian says:

And jt has the blissful luxury of ignorance whereby he/she feels no obligation to “figure things out” because theres simply a hatred for all things non-OBA (and the mindless mantras tied to them) to fall back on… Now go top up your Kool Aid…

    • Creamy says:

If he hadn’t resigned you’d have been whining about conflict of interest.

  4. ess ess dee says:

He resigned because he is hopeless and serves no purpose. He is not equipped for the Senate and this is the right thing to do…we need critical and strategic thinkers in office and regrettably NAlton is neither.

  5. Coffee says:

Somehow he saw Thad Hollis’s final draft ….

  6. godson says:

Some Bermudians are so gullible. ..you really think its about his “responsibilities to Morgan’s Point”…lol…what a joke….this man was not a good Minister…I don’t know what he done in the Senate. ..he done the right thing alright….left the job that wasnt for him…and for that I give him Kudos….a few more should follow his footsteps. …Bermuda’s Politics are in Shambles..

    • jt says:

Resigning to avoid a conflict of interest or removed for ineffectiveness – in either case it is a step beyond what we ever saw or could expect from the plp.

  7. SMH says:

You lot really need to grow up and stop with your crab mentality. Here we have a successful black man who chose to enter politics to be able to better his country and is now resigning because he is no longer able to properly fulfill his role because of his work commitments and you see a conspiracy theory? What a disgustingly racist concept. What next here’s a surrogate too? So Coffee according to you, according to you the story couldn’t possibly be that a black man is professional enough to know when he needs to focus on his career it has to a white person in there pulling the strings on his decision. How very low your opinion of your fellow man must be

    • watching says:

      Successful?
      That’s subjective.
But in the senate he was an embarrassment.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Unfortunately we still live in a society where we have many that can not see any further than the tip of their nose…Sad yes, but true :-(

  8. Elaine Faber says:

    @Ian…

Paula Cox cannot find a job in the private sector? She milked the public sector gravy train while it lasted.

She kept her private sector full-time job whilst being a part-time government minster, and attempted to legislatively secure full-time pay as the part-time minister of finance whilst still working full time for Ace Insurance.

Yes, she milked the public sector gravy train and it stunned her when it abruptly ended at the last general election.

As for Bermuda, the economy still reverberates around her policies, and some of those fiscal polices failed and added to Bermuda’s economic woes.

There are people in Bermuda who genuinely need to find work to put bread on their tables – my compassion lies with them.

And as an ex-minister of finance, who better to demonstrate saving for a rainy day.

    • Bermuda Jake says:

She is honest and intelligent. The voters had their say, and I respect that. No need to denigrate her now.

  9. Elaine Faber says:

What is denigrating about the comments?

Is this not the person who mentioned on a talk-show that when she gave up her full-time job to become premier, she gave up significant income?

Honest and intelligent – I would say astutely self-vested. A lawyer who should never have taken on the finance ministry portfolio.
