Cruise Ship Passenger Arrives With Leg Injury

A passenger on board the arriving cruise ship Celebrity Summit was transferred to King Edward Memorial Hospital when the ship docked on Wednesday [July 15]. The 84 yr old male passenger had suffered a leg injury and was in need of immediate medical assistance.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Tuesday 14th July 11:59pm, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre receives a Satellite telephone call from the cruise ship ‘Celebrity Summit’, reporting that an 84 yr old male passenger had suffered a fractured femur and was in need of immediate medical assistance.

“Following discussions between ship’s doctor; medical authorities ashore and the Maritime Operations Centre, it was decided that the ship would take an early pilot and land the patient ashore at King’s Wharf, Dockyard.

“At 07:20am, Wednesday 15th July, the patient was successfully taken ashore and transferred by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
