Motion Carried Over, “New Information” Come In

July 10, 2015

The Censure Motion against Speaker of the House Randy Horton was carried over again during this evening’s [July 10] sitting of the House of Assembly, with Opposition Leader Marc Bean saying: “Some new information has just come in, so we would like to carry over to another time.”

In March 2015, PLP MP Michael Scott gave notice of a Motion seeking to censure Speaker of the House Randy Horton for what they said was his “misconduct of suppressing debate in the House of Assembly” and the “misuse and abuse of his authority as Speaker.”

The Opposition’s Censure Motion followed Speaker Horton’s decision on March 13 to eject PLP MP David Burt from the House for trying to make Points of Order over an amendment being taken straight to a vote without debate, and the Speaker subsequently said that “with the benefit of hindsight, I now accept that I should not have allowed the amended motion to be brought to a vote at such an early stage.

The motion has been delayed a few times, and speaking in the House last month, Premier Michael Dunkley  expressed his concern, saying “My colleagues and I feel that a Motion of this serious nature should have been taken up at the first opportunity.”

    • Really Really BETTTY says:

Let them wait until you deed it is correct time. ……do not let Dunkley dictates the Motion……after all he has not spoken to the People of Bermuda on the Waterfrontgate Scandal…..hold on……

    • Onion juice says:

This has to be the WORST speaker we’ve had, well I guess it compliments the WORST Government.

      • 32n64w says:

Perhaps. But the premature politicaljaculation that is the PLP is far worse. They’ve monopolized the colour blue so much that Sherwin-Williams, Glidden and Valspar are contemplating a visit to beg for the pantone back.

Lead, follow or get out of the way. The PLP don’t even have their training wheels on. What an embarrassment to their constituents.

      • Spit Bouy says:

OJ, LOL If he is the worst speaker ever then at least it would be consistent seeing as he came from the worst ever Govt who are now the worst ever opposition these island have ever seen. The majority of Bermudians should be eternally grateful the PLP are not the Govt today or who the speaker is would hardly be worth noting & this running joke wouldn’t matter.

      • MAKE MY DAY says:

nvenienltyTake your “meds”….. You very conveniently forgot the PLP and that $2.3 BILLION deficit!!!

  2. Raymond Ray says:

This is ridiculous! You either have something,(only the Lord knows what it can possibly be) or you don’t. Which appears to be obvious?
There has to be a limitation to matter such as these before they must be brought forward. (Either stay on the putty and pee or get off of it)

  3. NO MORE WAR says:

Man let that go. That’s old news now. You guys must learn to strike while the iron is hot.

  4. Hmmm says:

PLP playing Bermuda for their own gain once more.

PLP think people are things to be played with.

PLP don’t gove a damn about anyone but themselves.

  5. Ann says:

  7. Need Peace says:

    • Spectator says:

Yeah, we’ve been hearing this for two and a half years now. Hope you’re not holding your breath.

  8. Navin Johnson says:

Does anyone, including Betty, really believe there is NEW information? Or is it just another PLP lie….after all they had to deceive us…

  9. Zevon says:

No, wait, he really has something this time. He really means it this time. He’s got tapes, phone numbers, bits of paper, everything. Why do none of you look scared? Just wait till this Friday. Or maybe next Friday. Or it might be a few weeks, because you never know, he might even think up new stuff. Just you wait, this is gonna be BIG. Yeah, big.

  10. Raymond Ray says:

Moving right along: (In reference to Amendment Act 2015 yesterday in the House of Assembly.) The Bill was passed on party lines nonetheless, by 18 votes to 16.
Certain Members of the Opposition should bite their tongues when using certain words/and making such accusation…

  11. JohnBoy says:

In the near future, Bean will be Premier and Trump will be President and all will be right with the world…..

then the Terminators will go back in time and mess everything up.

  12. Christopher Notorius says:

Not the PLP show should appear at the New Clayhouse Inn. That’s where they belong.

  13. Tired says:

    Getting popcorn …

  14. Ann says:

Could someone tell me, are we looking into the 18 million that if we have to pay back = 36 million? I have trouble understanding how it just disappears, Im lost if I were to loose 18 million of monies that were not mine I’d be in jail. I’m not totally stupid, but don’t understand how this issue has become the Marc Bean Show and discussed on talk radio. …….

  15. Jeremy Deacon says:

Is anyone else tired of all the politicking?

  16. Triangle Drifter says:

Is there a time frame in which he has to put up or shutup?

  17. Legal Eagle says:

I’m non-political, but notice the PLP’s irresponsible antics are making it more difficult to entice business to invest + create jobs for ALL,incl PLP supporters! Is that their self serving plan to regain power??-and are prepared to keep their own constituants jobless to do so??

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ Legal Eagle & Triangle Drifter: It certainly appears to be their(P.L.P) strategy…In ref. to if there is a time limit. I sure as hell hope so otherwise these “so and so’s” can keep that proverbial
“stick in the spokes” of progress indefinitely :-(

  18. bermy bud says:

Your party once u out of there leadership. Goes to show someone in PLP is thinking. He is trying to come hard to save his leadership even if he has to lie! Typical plp self before country!

  19. Balanced Facts says:

Soon to be PLP Back Bencher:
    MARK “HAS” BEAN.

  20. The Truth and Nothing but the Truth !! says:

You know I find it annoying the members of the PLP go to the house with such DRIVAL. Such a waste of time and certainly no value for money there!!! Un real !!

  21. cromwell says:

None of this makes any sense. You have the PLP continuing accusing the OBA of corruption and then you have the PLP accusing a PLP Speaker of corruption. Every Friday all we hear is accusations of all government PLP and OBA being corrupt and taking bribes.

If they are not blaming each other they are blaming race.

Are Bermudians enemies actually ourselves? Don’t we have other enemies we should worry about who would like to see us fail as a country.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ comwell: “Are Bermudians enemies actually ourselves?” One would think so “in’a”? :-(

      • OnionJuice says:

That’s what happens when you manipulate and ostracize a group of people for decades and don’t address the issue.

      • Onion Juice says:

So U.B.P. cried corruption and it was justified, but when P.L.P do it there’s a problem, and you wonder why race comes up.
Race has been a problem since the first Africans landed here and it is still the elephant in the room.

  22. Alvin Williams says:

Who is the Chef; the last piece of this puzzle in the collapse of this government?
