Dillas Finishes In Top 25 In Elite Amateur Event

April 6, 2016

Last weekend, local amateur golfer Jarryd Dillas recorded a top-25 finish at the 68th Azalea Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina. The tournament was played at the Country Club of Charleston [Par 71 - 6,776 yards], with Dillas returning scores of 72-68-74-72 on his way to a 24th place finish.

Mr Dillas said, “Overall, I was very happy with my performance. Last week was far and away the best result I’ve ever had at the Azalea and definitely gives me some confidence heading into the summer.”

Mr Dillas, who last month won his fifth Bermuda Amateur Match Play title, was particularly pleased with his par-5 scoring on the Seth Raynor designed course/

“I was nine-under on the three par-5s for the week, which was second only to the winner who played them in ten-under. I sometimes feel like I don’t take full advantage of my length off the tee, so it was nice to play the par-5 holes so well for four consecutive days,” he said.

Andy Zhang from China won the tournament in a runaway after rounds of 67-67-67-68 earned him a six-stroke victory. Zhang made history back in 2012 when, at the age of 14, he became the youngest player to ever participate in the U.S. Open after replacing the injured Paul Casey in the major championship field.
