Police Confirm Death Of 66-Year-Old Man

[Updated] Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel attended a property on Scott’s Hill Road in Sandys this evening [Nov 1] where a home is on fire. Fire fighters are on scene battling the blaze at this time. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 9.04pm: We are expecting to receive an official statement later on this evening and will update as able.

Update 9.27pm: Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Staff Officer Sergeant Allan Wilkinson said, “A call was received via 911 at 5:23pm to Fire Dispatch reporting a structural fire at Scott’s Hill, Sandys.

“Upon arrival firefighters noticed the structure fully involved in fire. The structure received extensive fire damage. Firefighters were eventually able to bring the fire under control at approximately 7.00pm and completely extinguish the blaze at approximately 7:45 pm.

“A heavy fire load inside the structure fueled the fire presenting an added challenge. The fire was attended by 10 vehicles and 23 personnel. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”

Update 10.40pm: The police have confirmed the very sad news that a 66-year-old man has died.

A police spokesperson said, “Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of a 66-year-old man who died as a result of a fire that took place on Scott’s Hill in Sandys today [Thursday].

“A full investigation has commenced with Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and the Bermuda Police Service. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.”
