Warwick Academy recently held its annual Book Week, with the genre being ‘Science Fiction’.

A spokesperson said, “In Warwick Academy, every year we have a week called Book Week. It is a marvelous way to learn. This year, the genre we are doing is ‘Science Fiction’. Every year group explored science fiction books and also did different activities.

“In Year One, they’re doing outer space, aliens, planet, and cinetix sand. For outer space, they are doing the stages of the moon. Another fun activity they are doing is designing your own alien. The cinetix sand represents moon sand. Some of their favourite books are ‘Life on Mars’ and ‘How to Catch a Star’. The Year Ones also got to put on an astronaut suit and wear a helmet.

“The Year Twos are making mini robots, and they’re writing a rocket story. They’re also reading sci-fi books on aliens and robots. In the rocket story, they have to make up a story about a rocket going to space. They are also sharing their favourite books.

“In Year Three, they’re reading a book called ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. Learning alien adjectives is another thing the Year Three kids enjoy. They’re also designing aliens. The aliens can have vibrant smiles that beam through their face, or they could have fangs with slime oozing out of their mouths. At Warwick Academy, we are very environmentally friendly, consequently, instead of creating normal robots, we use recycled materials.

“In Year Four, they’re studying aliens. They’re also reading books on time travel. Time travel is where someone, or something travels to the past. In some books they’re reading, the aliens are the bad guys trying to take over the world. In other books, the aliens are good guys, and they come in peace. They’re also making aliens, however, their favourite part is bringing in their favourite books. It is an opportunity to share your book with the class, and see if you would enjoy someone else’s book.

“In Year Five, they’re doing a science fiction play called ‘Centaurus 1′. They’re also doing a review on science fiction books, and writing science fiction stories. Like every other year, they are also sharing books and having a pajama day.

“The Year Six students are writing a science fiction stories in our literacy lessons. For golden time, which is on pajama day, we are going to bring in blankets and pillows and have a quiet reading session. We also read an interactive book called ‘Alien Invasion’, which is book where you have to make choices about what to do next, and you have to try to survive the alien invasion. We are going to share our favourite books, and our teacher, Mrs Webber brought in science fiction books for us to read.

“Library lessons were also special this week. Librarian Mrs Wolffe, built a time machine in the library. Students were able to travel in time. Once they got there, they explored either the past or the future [through books of course].

“Book Week is one of the most wonderful weeks in the whole year. Once of the best bits is when we wear our pajamas on Friday. In that week, the Primary football teams also play against other schools. Don’t worry, we don’t have to wear our pajamas to play football.”
