Cannonier: ‘Everyone Must Play Their Part’

April 8, 2020

“With so many people adversely affected by this crisis, everyone must step in to play their part,” OBA Leader Craig Cannonier said.

Mr. Cannonier said, “I want to thank the Governor for his help in arranging a special flight from the UK to bring Bermudians home – it will mean a great deal to those people and their families to be in Bermuda and reunited once the self-quarantine period has been observed.

“In addition, I want to thank him for helping to bring vital supplies, such as much-needed Covid-19 testing kits, to Bermuda. Our ability to fight this virus will be significantly greater thanks to the extra tests now available.

“Last week, I stated that wherever possible landlords of both residential and business properties, should be considerate to the needs of their tenants. I was pleased to see the Deputy Premier reiterate this at a press conference on Covid-19 this week.

“With so many people adversely affected by this crisis, everyone must step in to play their part to help those who may be struggling to pay their bills or their rent. This really is a time to put others above self.

“I have been impressed with how, for the most part, Bermudians have played their part by accepting this new norm. We are an extremely friendly and sociable people, so it is not easy to self-quarantine or self-distance, but my fellow countrymen clearly understand the severity of this situation.

“Please, do not falter.

“Use this time, when all we can hear is the wind in the trees and the birds singing, to reflect, to slow down and appreciate the things around you.

“If there is a silver lining, it may be that we have been given an opportunity to reset – to stop and think about who and what matters to us, and why. When we emerge from this, and we will, remember those thoughts and be grateful for what we have. Continue to wash hands, wear masks, practice social-distancing and observe the self-quarantine rules.

“May God bless us, Bermuda.”

    Sir,

    I agree.

You and some of your colleagues must also do your part by stepping way from representational politics since you will not be Premier again.

You mean, when we asked them to help us, because we don’t know how to behave like mature adults?
