24-Yr-Old Female Dies Following Accident
Only days before Christmas, Bermuda has sadly recorded the 13th road fatality of the year with the passing of 24-year-old Leaha Lanfear. She is the third person to have suffered fatal injuries on Bermuda’s roads in the last ten days.
Ms Lanfear was involved in a single vehicle motorbike accident early in the morning on December 16, on Crow Lane in Pembroke near the junction with Corkscrew Hill.
Originally from the UK, Ms Lanfear was a hairstylist at Renaissance Salon.
She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to King Edward Memorial that morning, placed in the Intensive Care Unit, and was later airlifted to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for further medical treatment.
This evening a Police spokesman said “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 24 year old, Leaha Lanfear. Ms. Lanfear was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore Maryland on Tuesday December 21, 2010. She succumbed to injuries sustained in a serious road traffic collision that occurred around 3:55am Thursday, December 16 on East Broadway and Corkscrew Hill. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Ms Lanfear. Inquires into this incident are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Sean Hassell on 295-0011.”
Ms Lanfear is the second female, and the third person to have been involved in a fatal collision in the East Broadway area this year. Her death marks the 13th road fatality for 2010:
- 60 yr old Gladwin ‘Stella’ Gilbert died on Dec 14 after a pedal bike accident on Parsons Road
- 39 yr old Kirk Simons died on Dec 11 after a bike accident on Harbour Road
- 31 yr old Earlston Smith died on Oct 11 after a bike accident on East Broadway
- 22 yr old Adam Goodwin died on Oct 3 after a bike accident in Smith’s
- 20 yr old Geoffrey Burns died on Sept 1 after a bike accident in Paget
- 28 yr old Katrina Flood died on June 12 after a bike accident on East Broadway
- 27 yr old Omar Sutton died on May 29 after a collision with a truck
- 69 yr old Derek Smith died on April 24, weeks after being struck by a motorcycle
- 41 yr old Andre Hendrickson died on April 17 after being struck by a car while walking
- 26 yr old Carlton Darrell died on April 2nd after a single vehicle accident in Devonshire
- 23 yr old Dareiko Simons died on Jan 9 after his bike collided with a car in Sandys
- 21 yr old Earl Ingemann died after a Jan 1st car crash, man arrested & charged in connection
