Former ZBM TV news anchorman Dave Burchell — one of the most familiar faces on Cincinnati television screens since he left Bermuda for the US 20 years ago –has abruptly vanished from the airwaves.

A longtime Bermuda Broadcasting Company employee, Mr. Burchell joined WKRC in Cincinnati in 1990 as a weekday reporter and weekend anchor. The station credited him with successfully leading the weekend news shows he anchored to a consistent number one showing in viewership.

Within a year of joining the station, Mr. Burchell was shifted to daytime news anchor for the noon and 5 pm reports, both of which commanded strong, number one viewing among greater Cincinnati households through 2006. .

M. Burchell also anchors daily, hourly newscasts on WKRC’s sister radio station.

Dave is a great guy, we were classmates at Emerson College. Very dedicated hard working man. Got a lot strong journalistic years left in him…. Cincinatti were just looking for someone younger but they underestimated their audience, people like a reliable anchor who they have come to trust and believe over the years. Good luck with their new anchor he will have some big shoes to fill. Walter Cronkite would laugh at their decision!
