Police Warning #2: Unsolicited Phone Calls

March 8, 2011

police logoThe Police have issued a second warning about verifying phone calls; after receiving reports that an unidentified male caller has been contacting people regarding an alleged electrical usage/hot water heater usage survey.

A few days ago, the Police Service had issued a similar statement regarding phone calls regarding an alleged sustainable energy survey.

A spokesman said, “The Bermuda Police Service is aware of some residents receiving phone calls regarding an alleged electrical usage / hot water heater usage survey. Apparently an unidentified male caller claims that he is conducting a survey of these utilities and needs to arrange a home inspection.”

“We continue to recommend that members of the public receiving these phone calls or similar phone calls ask for the caller’s name, phone number and credentials to verify if the call is genuine. Any unsubstantiated calls should be reported to Police.”

“In addition, if an unsolicited individual does attend your property, ask for official identification and confirm with the appropriate company. If at any time you are unsure about the person’s intentions, do not let them into your home and contact Police on 295-0011 (or in the case of an emergency 911) at the earliest opportunity.
