OBA Candidates & KBB Ord Road Cleanup

March 18, 2012

On Saturday morning [Mar.17], about 50 people including One Bermuda Alliance and FBA members Alexis Swan and Nandi Davis assisted Anne Hyde of KBB in a roadside cleanup that went from Paget Primary school along Ord Road to the junction with Dunscombe Road.

The event was supported by the Future Bermuda Alliance [FBA] which is the Youth Wing of the OBA.  Anne Hyde from the KBB said that this Ord Road cleanup seemed to have collected hundreds of pounds worth of debris, trash, litter, and recyclables. She said that last year, in 134 operations, the KBB had collected 35.5 tons of debris, trash, litter, and recyclables.

Yeserday’s working group of about 50 was made up of about 8 persons from the OBA/FBA and about 5 were neighbourhood residents. The remainder were students, many of whom were accompanied by their parents; with most of the students doing the clean-up as a part of their Community Service curriculum requirement.

By prior arrangement with W&E, a crew from W&E will swing by on Monday and take away the scores of colourful bags left lying on the side of the now cleaned-up roadside.

Both Ms Swan and Ms Davis are newcomers to the political scene. Ms Swan, 25, will represent the party in Constituency #24 Warwick South East, which will see her go head to head against Lawrence Scott who was previously announced as the PLP’s candidate.

Ms Davis, also 25, will represent the party in Constituency #2 St. George’s West, which will see a three way battle, with the UBP’s Kim Swan – the incumbent – seeking re-election, and the PLP confirming that John Gibbons will be their candidate for St. George’s West.

    • Anne Hyde @ KBB says:

Just to set the record straight, many PLP constituencies have participated in cleanup activities over the past several years. KBB welcomes any and all groups who want to keep Bermuda beautiful, litter-free and environmentally healthy.

This was KBB’s Monthly Cleanup, scheduled for Ord Road, and we were very happy to have One Bermuda Alliance candidates and youth members join the cleanup.

      Well done everyone!
