Witness Appeal: Rider Injured In Hit And Run

August 28, 2013

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision that occurred on Middle Road in Warwick at approximately 4.13pm on Monday [Aug 26] which left the rider of a motorcycle injured and saw the driver of the car involved drive away from the scene.

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said: “The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public assistance in a collision which occurred around 4:13 p.m. on Monday August 26, 2013, along Middle Road, Warwick near the vicinity of All Spice Gardens.

“The victim states, he was riding his motorcycle west, when a black sports utility vehicle of unknown make, model or registration was in the process of overtaking him.

“As a result of oncoming traffic approaching this black SUV, the unknown driver swerved back into the westbound lane to avoid a collision and struck the right handlebar area and continued west.

“As the rider attempted to get up off the ground, he noticed the driver of the black SUV stopped a good distance along Middle Road, and then drove off west. The rider stated he is confident his bike mirror scratched this SUV.

“We are appealing to the members of the public regarding anyone who may have witnessed this collision or may have seen a black SUV with scratches to the left side please contact Constable Lucretius Hamilton at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010″.

sad. i was in an accident and (i wont mention her name)if my bike hadn’t have gone under her car she would have kept going too. she never approached me to see if i was okay. her concern was her car.

    people are so cold.

If they catch this individual they should throw the book at them. Assault with a deadly weapon with five years minimum jail time has a nice ring to it.

I am contstantly in awe at the idiocy that I see on the roads every single day. How people justify putting their lives and the lives of others in jeopardy so they can get to their destination 10 seconds earlier just boggles my mind.

Welcome to the new Bermuda…the old Bermuda is dead.

Most of the people that are here don’t deserve to be here, they should be in some 3rd world country existing in a makeshift tent!

Does that ‘MOST’ include you? Or just the ‘others’

This happened on Monday 26th and the police are appealing for witnesses on Wednesday 28th? I’m sure TCD has a record of all the black SUV’s in Bermuda. A quick computer print out and some leg work will find a scratched black SUV in no time.

The police should give a copy of hit and run accident reports to the auto body garages. So that if anyone brings in a vehicle that’s been damaged ,the garages can compare notes with the police reports.

To the driver of the car how would you feel if that was your son or daughter you selfish b@st@rd

  6. K says:

It’s a long shot but are there and electronic licence scanners near where this took place? Police should check the records right before and after the time of the accident to see if anything shows up.

You go girl/boy!….good idea…keeping up with CSI or Law & Order….:)

  7. Really?! says:

Sadly this happens all of the time. A friend was recently the victim of a hit and run and was told that it is a frequent occurence. In their case they were badly injured and there would have been extensive damage to the car, but was anyone ever held accountable…nope! Supposedly even if you have the number plate they cannot prosecute unless you can identify the driver themselves. Very sad.

The car driving in Bermuda is dreadful. I gasp in shock on a daily basis at the driving of cars, who if I’m honest, put more people in danger than the people on bikes.

One easy way to help would be to install cameras on all of the traffic lights. As well as catching people jumping red lights (which let’s face it is all of the time!) it would also capture a photo of the licence plate AND the driver. These systems are common place in the UK. It’s about time Bermuda caught up! It may even save the police time and effort when they have to sit at the traffic lights waiting for people to run them red.

I’m late in posting and no one will prolly even read this. I’ve been thinking about it… Some Bermudians just don’t care. I should say people in general but when I was 29 I was so head over heels in love with a Bermudian man. He wanted to “child me up” and was Mr Perfect until I got pregnant and then he walked away. When I went to see a councilor because I was so messed up over it he said to me that this is nothing new in Bermuda and that this happens every day. There are people on this island that will mess your life right up and not care. And just walk thru life messing up anyone’s life who they come across.
I’m very sorry to the person who got hit. I hope they are okay.
