After being postponed the previous night due to inclement weather, the World Rugby Classic got back underway last night [Nov 14] with Argentina defeating the Classic Lions 7-3, and South Africa defeating the USA 47-7.
Argentina 7 Classic Lions 3
Argentina came from behind to defeat the Classic Lions 7 – 3. The Classic Lions went ahead 3 – 0 in the 29th minute when James Brown kicked a Penalty, but in the 36th minute Argentina’s Bernardo Stortoni went over for a Try and then Federico Jordan Todeschini kicked the Conversion to put them ahead 7 – 3 where the score would stay until the final whistle.
South Africa 47 USA 7
Jonno Brayley went over for a Try in the 8th minute to put South Africa ahead 5 – 0, Percy Montgomery kicked the Conversion making the score 7 – 0.
Victor Matfield went over for a Try in the 24th minute to extend the South Africa lead and then Montgomery kicked the Conversion it moved the score to 14-0. In the 38th minute South Africa scored their third Try of the game when Albert van den Berg went over and then he kicked the Conversion to make it 21 – 0, van den Berg went over for a Try minutes later. USA pulled a Try back in the 46th minute, Paul Emerik went over for a Try and then Clinton Camp kicked the Conversion 26 – 7.
Five minutes later South Africa restored their 26 point lead when Kruger intercepted a pass and went over for a Try and then when Reinhard Gerber kicked the Conversion the score went to 33-7, van den Berg completed his hat-trick when he scored a Try in the 55th minute and then Gerber kicked the Converion making it 40 – 7 and then Gerber ran from the halfway line and with over for a Try as time expired and he also kicked the Conversion to make the final scored 47 – 7.
