Police Inquiries Into Alleged Sunday Liquor Sale
A St George’s business is alleged to have gotten a little ahead of the planned new law, having apparently sold alcohol this past Sunday [Dec 15].
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is aware that a St. George’s business apparently sold alcohol during the afternoon of Sunday, December 15th.
“This is contrary to the current Liquor Licence Act and it was pointed out to the business,” continued the police spokesperson.
“Inquiries into this matter are ongoing and a file will be prepared and submitted to the Department of Public Prosecutions on its completion.”
In last month’s Throne Speech, Government said they would amend the law to allow liquor sales on Sunday.
The bill seeking to amend the Liquor Licence Act 1974 passed in the House of Assembly on Friday [Dec 13], and is set to head to the Senate tomorrow.
If Senators pass the bill, which is expected to happen, it then requires Governor’s assent to become the law.
Lord have mercy.
Imagine if they had sold it in the morning.
Gives a new meaning to “Sunrise Service”.
Imagine if they gave it out for free with a little cookie to everyone who got down on their knees on a Sunday morning!
Oh purleese! Go out and find some gang members fer crissakes.
why, dem byes sellin liquor???
Breaking the law is breaking the law regardless of the severity of the action.
Understood, but I’d let this one slide ….waste of effort…
Nope message needs to be sent – Bann them from selling liquor for one year.
That is the type of forward thinking that I applaud. If I had known, I would have made my way east and docked at Pennos Wharf to stock up on a couple cases of Amsterdam Lager…
I’ll be der next sun and they better do it again just for duke and me. Who loves to drink? We love to drink.
As much as I think this is ridiculous and a total waste of time, the law is the law and must be adhered too!! What the heck was that establishment thinking???
betcha it was a grey haired lady with a nasty attitude!
How about that fella selling ‘swizzle’ online?
Regardless – they allegedly broke the Law! – but they will be excused ‘
