CableVision Open Hearts Food Drive Continues
Bermuda CableVision’s “Open Hands Loving Hearts” Food Drive has distributed its most recent collections of non-perishable food items to three Bermuda charities that run feeding programmes for the less fortunate.
A special boost to the programme came from Bermuda’s children. On May 25, CableVision organised a concert entitled, “To Bermuda with Love,” where a number of children’s groups performed to benefit the food drive, while each attendee was asked to bring three non-perishable food items.
Between that event and the collection of food in various ‘big blue barrels’ placed by CableVision in schools, supermarkets and churches, the “Open Hands Loving Hearts” food drive was able fill fourteen barrels, each weighing 300 – 400 pounds.
The food was distributed to the Eliza DoLittle Society Food Bank, the Seventh Day Adventist feeding programme and the Bermuda Coalition for the Protection of Children.
CableVision CEO Terry Roberson says, “We’d like to thank everyone for their donations. The children have really taken this project to heart, showing a profound compassion for people in our community who are lacking in such basics as enough food to eat. The inspiring performances and support shown by these children have fueled many donations, and our thanks go out to them, as well as to all who came forward to contribute food and be a part of this initiative.
“We will continue collecting non-perishable items to make sure pantries remain stocked and feeding programmes can continue to do their important work. Our blue collection bins remain in place across the island, so we encourage everyone to help us keep up the momentum and help to end hunger in Bermuda.”
The children of Mount St. Agnes Academy, for the second year in a row, outpaced all other locations in collecting food, adding a total of nine barrels to the overall collection.
CableVision’s Rollin Nathan will present the school with an award to recognise the children’s efforts and thank them for their dedication in supporting the food drive.
“It is so heartwarming to see these young people working so diligently to help put food on the tables of Bermuda’s most vulnerable residents,” he said. “This is a tribute to the true spirit of community that is alive and well in Bermuda, and it is clearly being demonstrated at an early age.”
