At approximately 1.56pm today [July 19], the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a brush fire near Farm Lane in Warwick.

Fire Service spokesperson, Acting Sergeant Delton White, reports, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded with two fire vehicles and eight firefighters to a report of a large black dense smoke cloud.

“On our arrival we discovered fire burning through an area of brush approximately 20’ x 20’ containing old appliances, furniture and household garbage. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire using 1 ½” hose lines and over 500 gallons of water.

“The fire crew remained on scene extinguishing all hot-spots with the aim of preventing potential re-ignition.

“The Fire Service would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that controlled household burns are restricted to horticultural waste only and should be reported to the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service dispatch centre by calling 296-7559 before the burn commences.

“The burning of any materials outside of horticultural waste is strictly prohibited according to the Clean Air Regulations 1992.”
