Could Guyana be Bermuda’s next opponent ahead of the Concacaf Gold Cup?
Last night the Bermuda Football Association announced the Gombey Warriors will have a final warm-up match for the Gold Cup on June 6.
The announcement was made to the crowd near the end of Bermuda’s 2-1 victory over the Sao Miguel Select team. It said the opponent will be announced shortly, and the match will be played at the National Sports Centre.
Bermuda coach Kyle Lightbourne told Bernews that the opponent will come from the Caribbean region.
Coach Kyle Lightbourne speaking with Bernews after last night’s football game:
Sports journalist Santokie Nagulendran, who is a writer and editor at the Football Paradise website which won the Best International Football Blog in 2016 and was a finalist for the same award last year, indicated the opponent could be Guyana.
On May 20th, he tweeted, “Looks like Guyana will come up against fellow Gold Cup debutants Bermuda in an international friendly on June 6. The team will then travel to Costa Rica to continue their camp from June 9 before playing another international friendly, this time against Haiti on June 11.”
Guyana based websites are also reporting this, with one stating,”Guyana will then play fellow Gold Cup debutants Bermuda on June 6 in an international friendly,” while another states, “The camp begins on June 1 in Bermuda, where they will come up against fellow Gold Cup debutants Bermuda in an international friendly on June 6.”
Whether or not Guyana is Bermuda’s opponent is not officially confirmed yet, so eager fans will have to wait until the official announcement from the BFA to be sure.
