Arrest, 35 Tickets & ‘Suspected To Be Racing’
A man with an outstanding warrant who was traveling at 83kph while riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle whilst disqualified and in possession of a knife was arrested, while on a separate note police issued 35 tickets for speeding including “two motorcar drivers who were suspected to be racing and were clocked at 91kph and 93 respectively.”
Man Arrested
A spokesperson said, “Traffic stop leads to arrest of motorcycle rider who was clocked at more than twice the 35KPH speed limit. The arrest occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, 30th January, 2022.
“Officers were at the time conducting a traffic initiative as part of Operation Vega, along the North Road near the junction with The Glebe Road, Pembroke, when the motorcyclist was stopped after he was found to be travelling at 83KPH.
“Subsequent checks revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant and was riding whilst disqualified. The motorcycle he was riding was unlicensed and uninsured.
“The subject was also found to be in possession of a knife. Officers seized the knife and arrested the 27-year-old male. Enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”
35 Tickets Issued, Two Car Drivers ‘Suspected To Be Racing’
“Meanwhile, as Operation Vega continues Officers from the Roads Policing Unit were out on Crow Lane from 5:00 a.m. today.
“They issued thirty-five tickets for speeding offences. Two motorists were ticketed for using hand-held devices and a disqualified driver was arrested.
“Among those ticketed for speeding were two motorcar drivers who were suspected to be racing and were clocked at 91kph and 93 respectively.”
Appealing To Public To Slow Down
Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Tactical Support Unit said, “We are once again appealing to the motoring public to please observe the speed limit. Traveling at high rates of speed on our narrow, winding roads makes it more difficult to control a vehicle, creating the potential for life threatening situations to occur. Please help us Make Bermuda Safer by doing the right thing. Slow down.”
The level of entitlement continues to astound !
Someone who if they had any respect for court orders and how laws work would have been the very last person to be on the road driving/riding in fact does so in such a way to actually attract attention to themselves and also decides to do so with a knife !
Just incredible .
For him and all the others , well done BPS . This is just a scratch on the surface but it’s better than letting them run loose and endanger the rest of us whilst trying to remain unaccountable .
When are they going to reveal the DUI arrests for last weekend, or is it zero like over christmas so they don’t even bother?
I have no problem at all with the initiative, i do have a problem with the fines ( HOW MANY WILL PAY AND THE AMOUNTS ARE WAY TO LOW ) and or the wimpy justice system with their inadeaqute sentences. Not inyterested simply take the car/cyckle and impound it at owners risk of damage ( they dont abide by law then tough Shhh. )Airport dump comes to mind
