2022 International Customs Day Recognised

The Minister of National Security Renee Ming attended a small gathering at Customs Headquarters on Wednesday, 26 January, to recognise International Customs Day.

A Government spokesperson said, “The World Customs Organization [WCO] declared that the theme for 2022 International Customs Day [ICD] is “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem”.

“Due to the ongoing outbreak of Covid-19 in Bermuda, the events typically held to mark ICD have been postponed until 2023. However, the Customs Department were still able to pay tribute to the long service of a number of Customs Officers.”

Minister Ming said, “Despite the ongoing challenges that we as a country continue to face, I am glad that we were able to recognise Customs Day and the service of our Customs Officers.”

“Principal Customs Officer Mrs LaVerne Smith was given a certificate signed by the Minister of National Security, marking her 40 years of service. Officer Smith was joined by Customs Officer Mr Clayton Fleming, who has served for 30 years and also received a certificate from Minster Ming,” a spokesperson noted.

    What a joke. This minister has not been present for any recent deaths on the roads or gun crimes, buts shows up for a photo op for nothing meaningful. International customs day what BS!

    You are ignorant of the process! Road traffic accidents are the responsibility of the Minister of Transport, so why would the Minister of National Security attend.

    And maybe you missed it but the Minister of National Security has spoken up on all the shootings.

    Go read up on how Government works and attendance at crimes doesn’t solve the crimes.
