The Atlantic World Art Fair will open to the public for two weeks from April 20 to May 5, with the support of Butterfield.

A spokesperson said, “The Atlantic World Art Fair is pleased to return to the leading global online art marketplace Artsy, following a successful inaugural event last year, and will open to the public for two weeks from 20 April to 5 May, 2022 with the support of Butterfield.

“To enter the Fair, you need only click here. Thanks to Butterfield’s ongoing title sponsorship, you can explore the contemporary art movement in the Caribbean, the Atlantic Islands and the region’s wider diasporas from the comfort of your home as the entire exhibition, including new educational sessions, will be available online.

“This is a dynamic, under-represented art territory with complex, intertwined histories, relations and cultures informed by peoples of Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe. Artists featured in the Fair are nationals of, or reside in, Aruba, Azores, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St. Maarten, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands, and their diasporas.

“From emerging to established artists, the Atlantic World Art Fair offers a catalogue of provocative artwork that will satisfy the aesthetic tastes of many. In addition, everyone is encouraged to attend diverse events, such as critical commentary, panel discussions and studio visits, to learn more about their new favorite artists. Plus, register for the new Collectors Club to share in discussions about approaches to art collecting in the region.

“Featured artists from Bermuda include ABWilson, Meredith Andrews, James Cooper, Jayde Gibbons, Gherdai Hassell, Kevin Morris, and Teresa Kirby Smith.”

Founding Director Lisa Howie said, “I am delighted we have grown to 12 gallery and art project partners, thus increasing our presentation of artistic talents and widening our collective networks. My vision for the fair is focused on the career development of our artists. Broadening global exposure, making collector connections, supporting sales and providing residency opportunities, these can have transformational outcomes.

“Engaging with the online art marketplace is essential as we evolve global perceptions on artwork from the region and, our aim for next year, is to further expand with a hybrid model.”

Michael Neff, Butterfield’s managing director in Bermuda, said, “Butterfield has long been a supporter of the arts. Through this partnership with the Atlantic World Art Fair, and our existing relationship with local art institutions, we want to help spotlight talented local artists, support our community culture and engage clients by providing opportunities to start or grow their collections with access to art financing and advisory services.

“Butterfield’s own collection, which is displayed in our offices and features commissioned works by local artists, is something we are proud of and we look forward to people being able to discover and buy art created in Bermuda, and the wider region, at the Fair.”

The spokesperson said, “This year, the Atlantic World Art Fair features new partnerships with Cayman Art Week and the Fountainhead Artist Residency Program, the latter of which will provide one artist featured in the Fair the opportunity of a month-long residence in Miami.
