The Bermuda Triangle Cup will pit some of the island’s top youth football teams against overseas competition at the National Stadium in August.
The tournament, organised by Bermuda Sports International, is open to male and female players in under-13, under-15, under-17 and collegiate age groups, with each team guaranteed at least three matches.
It will run from August 3 to 7. Registration closes tomorrow [March 31].
Dr Ernest Peets, Minister of Youth Culture and Sport, said: “This major youth sporting event will see some of our most talented boys’ and girls’ teams compete against some of the world’s best.
“We’re proud to support our young people as they prepare to represent their respective teams and destinations with pride and determination.”
Brian Martin, one of the founders of Bermuda Sports International along with Charles Russell and director Dennis Brown, said they planned to hold more amateur sporting events at the National Sports Centre later this year.
“We’re here at the NSC looking around, touring the facilities to see future events we’re going to host here for amateur sports,” Martin said.
“The first event will be a soccer event in August [The Bermuda Triangle Cup], and then we’re working on other events we’re going to have here later in the year.
“We’re looking at field hockey, we’re looking at lacrosse, we’re looking at flag football, we’re looking at multiple events.
“We’re a Bermuda-based company, but we’re also located in the United States, so [there will be] lots of sports tourism where teams will be coming to Bermuda to play at our facilities.”
