Pilgrim Places 22nd In Americas Championships
Nicholas Pilgrim finished 22nd in the Americas Triathlon Championship Junior Elite Triathlon in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Pilgrim clocked a time of 58:59, Pilgrim would finish the wetsuit legal 750m swim clocking a time of 11:47, he was with the front pack exiting the transition, onto the bike leg, in first place with one of the USA’s leading junior competitors, Kellor Norland.
Despite their best efforts, the leading duo was swallowed up by the main pack within the first lap. The next 3 laps of the 20 km bike course saw multiple breakaway attempts but to no avail as the group of 15 was clearly too strong for any rider to get away. Pilgrim would clock a time of 28:10 on the bike.
Pilgrim entered T2 with the group and went out hard on the 5k run leg. A short steep hill on both laps meant that a number of the faster runners from the chase pack were able to catch a number of the lead pack athletes.
Pilgrim finished the run in 18:10 which was a solid time in a field of the best junior triathletes from the North and South American regions.
“I felt good in the race and was pleased with how things are starting to come together,” he said.
