Guadeloupe defeated Bermuda 1-0 in the CFU Girls’ U14 Challenge Series semifinal in Antigua.

The organisers said, “Guadeloupe punched their ticket to the Tier II 2023 CFU Girls’ U14 Challenge Series when they defeated Bermuda 1-0 in their semifinal encounter on Saturday at the ABFA Technical Center in St. John’s, Antigua.

“Guadeloupe dominated the match, attacking Bermuda from the start the game, forcing Bermuda to be on defense for most of the game. With a series of combination plays from the French team, Bermuda struggled tremendously in intercepting passes.

“Goalkeeper Semaj Baisden-Scott displayed an excellent performance in the goal, saving many of the shots made by Guadeloupe.

“Midfielder Keliah Joyeux, controlled the middle of the park for Guadeloupe with great determination and resilience to the goal. She contributed several shots to her team despite them going wide of the goal or into the hands of Baisden.

“Guadeloupe returned after the half to continue their game in full attacking mode.

“Lea Pheron made a few brilliant passes on attack and counterattacks, sprinting away from the Bermuda players. Her efforts paid off in the 66’ play when she struck a ball to the back of the net, catching Baisden completely off-guard.”

“Bermuda tried a few counterattacks as the game was coming to an end, but they found it difficult to pass the French defenders. At the end of relegation, it was the lone goal from Pheron that secured Guadeloupe a spot in the Tier II finals. The team will play Martinique, who got past Anguilla 1-0 in the other semifinal encounter.”
