Bermuda cyclist Kaden Hopkins has achieved another career milestone after winning the second stage of the Tour of Guadeloupe yesterday [August 6].
Hopkins, competing for French team Vendee U, a Division One development outfit for Team TotalEnergies, finished the 161.4km stage from Morne-à-l’Eau to Port-Louis in 3:51:44.
His team-mate Lucas Boniface came second and Loic Laviolette, of Team Madras Cycling, placed third.
Hopkins previously raced at the annual Tour of Guadeloupe, a UCI 2.2 stage race, two years ago, competing as a guest rider for Dominican team Inteja.
The 23-year-old, who moved to third in the general classification, told a press conference: “It’s my first win at this level with the team, so I’m very happy with it.
“We’re here to target as many stages as possible, and today was definitely one of them.
Hopkins added: “I was at this race two years ago and didn’t manage to win a stage race back then, but it’s where I first raced against Vendee U, so to be back here with the team is very special.
“The goal was to win a stage this week, so I’m very happy.”
